The new I-74 bridge design will include lighting in the arches of the bridge. The color of the arch span lighting can be controlled programmatically and can change at night. Lighting is also planned in the river crossing bridge pier. Viaduct piers are designed for smooth traffic flow at the exits of the bridge. The bridge arch span is planned to have pedestrian railings, pedestrian overlook, and bike ramps which will have lighting in the night. An architectural glass object is proposed at the pedestrian overlook on the I-74 bridge.

I74 bridge abutments will have maskwalls and bridge barriers will be installed. The arch ribs will be painted white and the facia girder will be medium gray. The interior girders will be weathering steel and painted near the piers. Identity elements are planned on the bridge and the roads leading to the bridge in Iowa and Illinois.
